Strawberry Festival Ride

This morning I attended Trailnet's Strawberry Festival Bike Ride in St Jacob's Illinois. I arrived a bit late and didn't get a chance to meet up with anyone, but it was fun nevertheless. This is my second ride of the year and I plan on attending many more. I also picked up a helmet this past week. I really stood out last week. Heck, I may have been one of the only rides without one. It's probably a good idea even if I did buy it due to peer pressure. I chose to to do the middle ride of 24.7 miles today due to the weather(I was worried it would start pouring at any moment). It was actually raining pretty hard when I left my house this morning. Fortunately, St Jacob's isn't all that close(approx 45-50 miles) to Ballwin, MO where I live so the rain stopped somewhere in between. My only gripe of the day had to due with the long line at the Strawberry Shortcake stand afterwards. I chose not to stand in line and wasted my free ticket. Better luck next time.

Linguistic divinity

Interesting quiz I saw referenced on phobia.com.

My results:
Master!
You are a MASTER of the English language!

While your English is not exactly perfect,
you are still more grammatically correct than
just about every American. Still, there is
always room for improvement...

How grammatically sound are you?

Nukes on JBoss: Open Source CMS

Over the past week, I have put together a Nukes on Jboss web application to facilitate communication about an annual golf tournament that my friends and I attend. I guess communication isn't the right word, really it's just a bunch of juvenile trash talking, but fun nevertheless.

My first impressions of nukes is that it is a really great idea that needs more work to be a useable out of the box. Below I have listed some good things and not so goods things that I have discovered so far.

The Good

  • Easy to get it up and running. Approx 10-15 min.
  • Wide array of features(forum, cms, permission's based, etc.)
  • Easy on the pocket book

The Bad

  • Some of the content is just plain bad. For instance, if you choose the "I am under 18 and do not have parental consent." link while registering, you get the following message: "You must be Nukes on JBoss or over, or have parental permission to register here. Please click here to return to the main page."
  • There is no way to edit user permission's via the application, you must log into the jmx-console to do so.
  • Cannot manage forum content(delete posts, edit posts, etc) with the supplied admin account?? Did I do something wrong?

The Ugly

  • Documentation is very sparse. Other than the JBoss forum and a wiki there is not much more. While its enough to get you off the ground, it isn't good for much more.
  • The BBCode markup doesn't seem to work. If I use the buttons when submitting a post, the code is posted as text.

Trailnet bike ride

Today I got off my butt and went on the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Bike Ride put on by Trailnet. I chose the middle route of 33.2 miles and Hans took the long route of 46.2 miles. It took me just under 3hrs to complete the ride. I thought that was pretty decent considering it was my first outing of the year, not to mention I bought my bike yesterday.

Cyber War PBS Program

This show looks pretty interesting especially considering the Sasser virus that just hit those with inferior operating systems.

Somewhat frightening but rather interesting website

Just stumbled upon an interesting site called Group Hug. The foundation for this site is anonymous people posting confessions about themselves. It's a way to vent to the masses without specifically mentioning yourself or the others in the confessions. It's quite bizarre. Give it a try, but beware i've stumbled upon several stomach turning entries.
