I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

About a week or so ago, I started having DNS problems so I sent an email to my ISP. Periodically, I could resolve some hosts, but not all hosts. This was an intermittent problem for about 2 days. Finally after Joe from Valuenet didn't respond, I decided to call in and leave a support message on his machine. Upon connecting to his IVR system, I find out that I need to update my DNS server's ip address and that will fix my problem. What a pleasant way to let your customers know that something is changing. Shame on you Joe! For the life of me, I cannot understand why he couldn't make this transparent by routing the original IP's traffic to the new IP.

Now that I have updated the DNS server's IP Address, I browse the web and fire off a couple email messages using my mailserver that I've had for over 3 years. To my surprise I get a bounce notification that my IP Adress is part of a block that are being used by verified spammers. My email server is not an open relay and 0 spamm messages have ever been transmitted through it. I email Spamhaus, the company that has my ip block flagged, and request that remove me and plead that I am not a spammer. They reply stating that Valuenet is a known problem to them and that Joe will have to call them to get this taken care of. Remember Joe, he is the jerk that won't return his customers support calls.

At this point in the game it's 4th and 40 and time to punt. I contact SpeakEasy.net and ask about the policies about customers running servers off their DSL service. They respond in an hour and say, we would love to have you as a customer and encourage our users to do this sort of thing. I was pleasantly surprised and end up signing up with SpeakEasy.net. The sign up process was simple and they give you a step by step status on where you are at in the process. What a nice alternative to jerk off Joe. Can't say I'll miss him or his customer service(or should I say lack of customer service).

If any of you are having problems with your ISP, please check out SpeakEasy.net. If you use this url, I get a kickback from SpeakEasy for referrals. Besides my appreciation for you being referred by me, it's also another perk to joining SpeakEasy.net. Heck, I didn't even mention that SpeakEasy is $5 less than Valuenet.

Now I need to figure out how to cancel my Valuenet service. Since I can't call in, I'm thinking of changing my credit card number. Once jerk off Joe calls to tell me there is a problem, I will let him know that I fired him with the same elegance he answered my calls! Other suggestion's are welcome, so use please my comment section :)

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

Hey Mike, You mean you fired the DSL Nazi? I loved his answering machine message, "we are busy help other customer..." yeah, right. You could have a lawyer draft a letter for breach of contract or something nasty like that. I'm just remembering the conversation we had when you were trying to get the valuenet hookup and he was so rude to you.

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

Yep, I had his service for 3+ years without a hitch, but his lack of customer service made me save $5 :)

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

Finally! I have been killing myself for two weeks trying to figure out why my elderly mom's PC suddenly couldn't access paypal. I did virus and spyware scans, 4 hour long Windows updates, even a full system recovery. And it turns out the jerk at Valuenet changed the DNS settings without telling anybody. Luckily I found your blog doing a search on "Valuenet ISP". He just lost another customer. Thanks! DSL Nazi- I like that.

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

Tom, I just got back from Valuenet's office and he is behind locked and closed doors. Good luck canceling, he won't respond to my voice mail messages, email's, or my knocking on his door. I've just called my credit card company to dispute the charges. I recommend you do the same. Good luck Tom, I'm glad my blog message helped

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

I just noticed that valuenet.net blacklisting from spamhaus has been lifted. I guess Joe got my message or others complained too. Doesn't matter to me though, Speakeasy is working great. I was up and running 6 days from the time I ordered. No outage of service either. One day, my valuenet quit working(speakeasy told me the day this would happen ahead of time) and all I had to do was change the ip, subnet, gateway, etc and speak easy was up and running. Do yourself a favor and dump valuenet .net immediately if not sooner!

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

Speakeasy rawks. Been using it for 3 years, ALWAYS been impressed with their service and professionalism. BTW - if you use VISA as your credit card provider, and your ISP uses their AutoUpdate feature, they will get a notice of your new CC # and change it dynamically. How fucked up is that?

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

I did talk to my CC company and the "feature" you are talking about is the exact reason changing my card number won't make a difference. They did suggest protesting the charge. They said that would actually cost Valuenet.net money. Im all for that. Not to mention, I have a loud mouth and I like to spread the word ;)

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

This ISP really needs to look up and see that if they want to stay around, they better respect their customer's time. Although most of their clientele is quite technically sound, bringing down the DNS servers is not something so obviously apparent, and people have to waste their valuable time to figure that out. I'd rather do something more fun. Also not caring enough to stop entire subnets from being blocked by anti spamming agencies, does'nt help either, especially with the kind of customers who love to run their own mail servers.

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

Anyone for no email service? I am getting ready to shut down as well. For the second time this year alone I have been without the ability to send or receive email for over 4-5 days. Try running a business when you can't send email! Oh yess the answering machine is full and option 0 has been removed from the phone system. Lack of support anyone?

Re: I Fired my ISP - Valuenet.net

I see Joe has removed ADSL service as an option from his website, this does not bode well. Nouveau Recipe le Valuenet: constant horrid packetloss+dns outages+ spamlist blocking+lame newserver But Guess What?! tastes like S. I require low PLoss and Pings. Joe~san You were the man for a long time, your service used to be ROCK SOLID, and I FREAKIN LOVED how everyone hated you and you never gave an S! :þ I wish I could post an mp3, i have joe down pat ..................................."maybee i leev funny voicemaiw. Even voicemaiw mahsheen..nahsuppose be for joke, bu'I do it!!! hahaha!" Seriously, I think its only us chumps and overly-loyal customers that havent jumped ship, and im about to cast off with my office AND home accounts. Bye Bye "Joe the DSL-Nazi from ValueNOT" thx 4 da memories especially the games and porn! :P °¿°
