Mac OS X - Rant about Software Update

Why is it that Apple's software update utility, always bothers me with updates that don't apply. Just a day or so ago, I got the following Airport Extreme update and I don't have any hardware that supports Airport Extreme. Not to mention that it notifies you as an open Application. I wish it would have an option to download the update on its own and let me install it at my leisure. Then it could just put an icon in the Apple menu bar. Ok, I feel better now.

Do you not have an Airport Extreme card in your PowerBook?

Nope, I have a 15" Ti book. 802.11b.

Re: Mac OS X - Rant about Software Update

1) Did you try selecting Update->Ignore-Update from the menu bar? After selecting that option, you should no longer be notified.

2) You can opt to download, but not install updates. You can even download them in the background (and be notified when they are ready to install).

Brad, #1 is still a reactive approach. I have to look at something that doesn't apply to my machine and tell autoupdate to ignore it. It should be smart enough to do that on its own. After all Apple makes both the hardware and the software.
