Boy do I love Christmas time

As my wife and I are out shopping this weekend, I decided to make a purchase for myself. After all it's better to give than receive right. So I gave to myself. I walked past the Apple store several times and eventually gave in at a moment of weakness. I purchased AirPort Express with Air Tunes. For those of you that don't know what this product is, give it a read. In a nutshell, it allows me to broadcast music stored in iTunes to my stereo without wires. Only problem is, I don't have a stereo to broadcast too. A trip to best buy an hour or so later fixed that. Against the advice of an audiophile friend at work, I bought a low end Pioneer surround sound setup. It came with a receiver, DVD player, 5 surround sound speakers and a sub. I only hooked up the front 3 speakers and the sub. I'm looking for decent sound that is loud enough to carry through the living room and kitchen. This setup fits the bill nicely with a low entry cost. I'm sure my friend from work is correct with his advice, but I think my ears aren't used to good clean sound so it is hard for me to tell the difference.

I have my airtunes hooked into the house stereo (piped to 6 rooms, a screened porch, and an outside patio). Being able to control what I listen to with my powerbook outside on the screened porch is priceless!

I hope you got the special $99 deal Friday! I got mine refurbished for $99. I ended up getting two of them. I have a "cloud" of WiFi using WDS -- seamlessly handing me off from one base station to another without my knowledge as I travel through the house (one SSID).

I did not get the $99 deal but I did get the student discount(10%). The impulse of the buy made it possible. Had I had time to think about it more(order online), I may have passed. I am using WDS, although my access point is near the center of my house and my house isn't large enough to actually need this benefit. I am also happy to say, my setup/configuration experience was much less painful than Simon's.
