MacBook Pro too hot, try this!

I picked up the following application called Fan Control and have had a "cooler" laptop ever since. It's simple and effective, just what you would expect on this platform.

I blogged about this back in October: http://www.jroller.com/page/bsnyder?entry=cool_down_your_macbook_pro There are actually two different fan controls that I've found and I prefer Fan Control. It works like a charm!

Re: MacBook Pro too hot, try this!

Okay, I need some help with information here.  I have a Macbook Pro 2.4 GHZ - the new one with Santa Rosa technology and 256 megs of Geforce 8800M video ram.  Anyway, I downloaded the cool fan control program, because it looks pretty hot.  I wouldn't want to be that hot.  But, I am concerned about what to setting for the fan RPMs.  I don't want to break the fans.  What is a good setting for me if I'm online all the time, and will setting the fan speed higher decrease the life of the laptop?  Please Help!  My Macbook Pro when online right now is 63 degrees Celsius.  Boy, that's HOT!

Setting the fan speed higher WON'T reduce the life of your laptop--only your battery life.  Reducing the heat will actually cause the components of your laptop to last longer.  I doubt that your software would exceed a maximum RPM value for your fans.  Also, if you're just on the internet (something that is not very computing- or graphics-intense), your laptop shouldn't be running that hot.  (About 40 degrees Celsius would be excellent.)  There could be a defect.

Also, you don't have a GeForce 8800, you have a GeForce 8600.  The 8800M would make your laptop even hotter--but it hasn't even been released.
