Thawte - Web Of Trust

I am a thawte notary. I can assist you with earning enough trust points to have a verified e-mail certificate and eventually become a notary yourself!

The Thawte Web of Trust (WOT) was devised by thawte to promote a culture of trust. It is a certification system that allows a WOT Notary(me) to validate your credentials. This is done through approaching a recognized thawte Notary who, on being shown the relevant proof, will validate your ID. You, in turn, can then become a thawte Notary yourself, and begin validating others' identities.

Steps Involved:

  • Register at thawte.com
  • Confirm at least one email address
  • Find and contact a WOT Notary in your area using the WOT Notary Map
  • Allow the notary to see your information so they can print out the appropriate form
  • Generate a cert and import it into your email client. After you earn 50pts, you will be able to include your Name in the cert. If you earn 100pts, you will become a WOT Notary yourself.
If you would like for me to notarize you, we will need to find a time to meet. This process must be done in person according to Thawte. The steps above must be complete before we can meet though. Once you are ready, email me and we can arrange a time and location to meet.

You will need to bring:

  • At least two forms of picture identification, including the ID you used for the thawte National ID number. More id is better, and the more official it is, the better it is (i.e. a driver's license is better than a school ID).
  • One legible copy of each form of id you bring.
I will bring:

When we meet, I will verify that the documents you provided match both your physical identification and registration details that Thawte has on file. We will both sign and date the Notarization Forms and each keep a copy. Thawte requires that I keep the copies of each ID as well as the Notarization Form on file for 5 years. For this reason, I suggest not using any form of id with your SSN on it. I will allow it though. I generally will assert the full amount of trust points that I am allowed to(currently 10). However, I reserve the right to assert fewer or no points if your identification/documentation is incomplete or questionable.
